Volunteer Information

Do You Have Extra Time and a Passion for Birds?Cleaning_Cages

Quail Ridge Parrot Rescue has varied and rewarding opportunities and we warmly welcome all potential volunteers to talk to us and find your way to help out.

This is an ideal opportunity for student projects.

You can enjoy hands on experience with animals that you would normally only get to see in Zoos and Exhibits.

It is a great resume builder.

For those with community service hours, working with the birds can be time well spent.

The Rescue can always use your help, even if it’s just for a day.  This is an ideal place for students who are looking forward to getting a job working with animals to gain valuable experience.  Adults can get away from their day-to-day stresses and spend the time with an impartial, unbiased audience who will always love you for who you are.  If you have a green thumb, there are always plenty of plants and trees that need to be planted and tended.  Or if you want to take out a few aggressions on a deserving foe, there is always weeding and trimming that needs to be done.  If you are a home school student, this is an opportunity to add something different to your studies.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Here are examples of volunteer opportunities at the Rescue with some that can even be done from home:

  • Administration – Assisting with general administration and clerical duties (record keeping, finance reconciliations, filing, etc.)

  • Animal Care – Feeding, watering, passing out treats and toys for birds, cleaning cages and surrounding areas, and spending time with birds.

  • Elf Patrol – That’s what we call our toy makers!  These people are in charge of gathering materials, soliciting donations of toy parts and making bird-friendly toys for all sizes of exotic birds.

  • Fundraising...our Most Important Job – Developing and assisting with fundraising efforts including events, securing donations (financial, media coverage, building materials, etc) and other support.

  • Groundskeeping – Great way to get your exercise while landscaping, gardening and improving the premises.

  • Helping from Home – We need many volunteers who may have a few hours per week to help with our fundraising projects, Internet awareness, publicity, etc.

  • Maintenance/Construction – there is always plenty to do with general maintenance and construction of new flights and other improvements.

  • Outreach – Organizing and assisting with promotional efforts to increase awareness of Quail Ridge Parrot Rescue and the peril of the Exotic Parrot in their native habitat.

  • Special Events – Set up and participate in Special Events.  We would like to have booth exposure in all venues available in Southern California.

  • Transportation – Sometimes our birds or products need to be transported to and/or from events, vets, and manufacturers.  Must have a valid California Drivers License.

  • Youth Program – Assisting with food, water, treats and toys for birds, cleaning cages, and outdoor work.  Must be 14 – 17 years of age and accompanied by parent or mentor over 18.

  • Special Skills – Assisting Quail Ridge Parrot Rescue with your special skills, such as painting, welding, machine operator, etc.

THANKS TO OUR VOLUNTEERS!

Without the help of these dedicated people we would not be able to give the birds the type of love and care that they need and deserve.  Since there are no paychecks, these fine people work for the love of the birds and an occasional treat!
